The Power
of Our Subconscious Mind
By Rebecca Armstrong C.C.Ht.
The subconscious mind is a powerful element of
our mind and body that when work with directly, allows one to heal, create
lasting change, and empower their lives. There are six essential functions of
the subconscious mind. The first one being that the subconscious mind serves as
the store house for our memory. Our subconscious functions much like a computer.
Intricate systems of interconnected neuro networks store everything that we have
ever experienced. The subconscious is the collection of these neuro networks and
cells that exist throughout our entire body. This information is delivered to
the conscious mind when requested or appropriate. All that you have ever
experience from sensory motor development to formal operational development is
stored in your subconscious. The subconscious mediates and directs all
involuntary body functions such as breathing, digestion, circulation,
metabolism, hormone and chemical balance, facial muscle movements, etc. It is
command center of our emotions. Thoughts and behaviors are strongly influenced
and directed by emotions. All emotions available or unavailable to the conscious
mind are seated here in the subconscious. The subconscious is the origin of the
imagination. Imagination is often referred to as the preview of what is able to
become. Our imagination is one of the strongest tools for healing and change. It
is a limitless resource that enables us to create a desired state. Through a
process of Future Pacing, we are able to clarify goals and then through reverse
planning, extract the steps necessary to achieve those goals in ways that are
strongly in rapport with that particular individual and then deliver this
formula automatically to the conscious mind to be completed. The subconscious
also carries out habitual conduct. All automated thoughts, behaviors, beliefs,
responses and reactions are logged in our subconscious mind. When we refer to
something being on automatic pilot we are referring to a behavior or thought
that is carried out entirely by the subconscious mind often times like a
computer running a program without the direct involvement and interaction of the
conscious mind. The subconscious supplies all motivation and energy necessary
for change. It directs the activities of the conscious mind. The subconscious
mind is the part of us that is designed to take good care of us and given its
incredible capacities it is the part of us that is able to be the most
comprehensive when doing so.
Hypnosis is clearly a definable state of
hyper-focus and awareness inward and most often utilizes the Alpha and Theta
levels of the mind. Hypnosis is the most practical and simple tool for working
with the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy brings processes of hypnosis and
counseling together and is one of the most powerful methods which, offers people
the ability to develop skills and resources that allows them to change their
life. All hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis. A typical person experiences a hypnosis
state an average of five-times on their own every day, meaning that hypnosis is
a very natural process which, most people may not know they are already very
good at. A person looking to heal, create lasting change, and empower their
lives will benefit greatly and often achieve a more complete and rapid result
from working directly with a tool such as Hypnotherapy, which will give them
direct access to the six essential functions of their subconscious mind.
